Carol Caruso
Senior Vice President – Global

Carol Caruso is Accion’s SVP of Channels & Technology (C&T). Carol has 20 years of experience in business and IT consulting services in developed and developing countries, including planning and implementation of mobile banking, agent banking and other digital channels. She previously worked at Triple Jump, a Dutch responsible investment manager, working with microfinance banks in developing countries, where she served as the Managing Director of Advisory Services. In this role, she was responsible for strategic and operational planning, partnership development and implementation of technical assistance for new product development, mobile and agent banking and core banking systems. She has worked on a wide variety of digital financial services and collaborated with partners from Visa, Safaricom, Airtel, MTN and a variety of technology platform providers to Central Banks and private companies.

Prior to her work at Triple Jump, Carol was the Senior Microfinance Advisor for West Africa at Kiva. Prior to Kiva, she was the Senior Director of Business Consulting Services for EMEA at Broadvision. Carol has considerable experience working with digital solutions and a particular interest in the use of technology to increase operational efficiencies and drive financial inclusion.

Carol is a frequent speaker at conferences for the developing market, including Clarion’s MMT (Mobile Money Transfer), GSM Association, AITEC Banking Africa, European Microfinance Platform, guest lectures at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and teaches the course ‘Increasing Access to Finance through Branchless Banking’ at the Boulder Microfinance Institute.

Carol is fluent in English and French, received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics & Finance from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and completed the Executive Management program at UC Berkeley.


Prateek Shrivastava
Director – Global

Prateek Shrivastava is a Director of Channels & Technology at Accion International. He is responsible for supporting Accion’s banks, MFIs and investments in the effective use of digital channels. His passion is to build operationally strong and commercially viable businesses based on digital technologies.

Prateek has experiance implementing technical solutions and building operational businesses over the past 22 years is across 25 countries. Since 2006, he has worked to build systems that deliver digital financial services for the unbanked in emerging markets in Asia and Africa. He has helped design technology, business strategy, raised funding and built field staff and customer support systems. During this time, he was Managing Director for Emerging Markets at Monitise plc where he was responsible for the expansion of Monitise’s services in Nigeria, India and Indonesia. Prateek left Monitise in 2012 to set up a specialist consultancy, Accendo Associates, through which he worked on projects for IFC, World Bank, USAID and several private digital services companies.

In 2013, he co-founded BeyondBranches, an agent centric digital financial services company in Nigeria. He later sold this business to a large regional payments provider.

Prateek has published several papers and has guest edited journals and books. He regularly gives talks at events around the world including at the UK House of Lords, World Economic Forum and GSMA Mobile World Congress.

Prateek holds an MBA specializing in Mobile Banking and Microfinance from the Henley Management College, a Masters in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Applied Computing from University of Western Sydney, Australia.


Sandra Calderon
Manager – Latin America

Sandra Calderon is Accion’s Channels Manager for Latin America, and she is responsible for developing and implementing projects in the region. She provides support to microfinance institutions and banks to implement and manage their digital financial service channels. At Accion, Sandra has been working with our partners in Colombia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and Dominican Republic implementing channels such as ATM’s, minibranches, mobile banking, and agent networks. She has advised and supported these institutions in strategy planning, defining objectives, market research, development, testing, and launching, as well as training management and field staff.

Sandra has also developed Channels planning documents for other MFIs and banks in the regions on how to best improve their current channels operations and consider new channels for development to achieve their long-term business objectives.

Sandra has 20 years of experience in the financial payments and technology sector, in areas such as: insurance, banking, credit card, customer service, and digital channels (i.e. mobile and agent network banking).  She previously worked at HSBC Colombia, where she was the Channels Manager. In this role she developed and implemented projects related to the Call Center, IVR, Internet Banking, Agent networks and ATMs.  She has worked on strategic analysis, planning, vendor selection, contract development, monitoring service levels, and management information systems.

Prior to HSBC, Sandra worked with Lloyds TSB Bank and Banco Anglo Colombiano, where she developed customer service projects, customer service strategy, implemented service protocols, provided staff training, conducted quality process assurance, and developed loyalty and retention strategies.

Sandra received her degree in Economics with a specialization in Finance from Santo Tomás University.


Luis Prieto
Manager – Latin America

Luis Prieto is a Channels Manager for Latin America. He is responsible for developing and supporting initiatives that leverage technology and channels solutions for the delivery of financial products and services.

Luis has 18 years of IT project experience and 13 years working in the financial industry. For the last 5 years he has focused on the microfinance sector advising ACCION partner institutions, such as Banco Pichincha in Ecuador, Finamerica in Colombia and FAMA in Nicaragua. Luis has executed several projects launching new transactional channels such as multifunctional ATMs, non-banking correspondents/agents and mobile banking. He has advised on technology customizations for management and operational processes and worked on the assessment and selection process for core banking systems. Previously, Luis worked as a Project Leader for ATH Network in Colombia. While there he implemented and improved solutions for AVAL Group Banks, such as Banco de Bogotá, Banco AVVillas, Banco Popular and Banco de Occidente where he was responsible for launching digital financial services channels for personal and enterprise banking, mobile banking solutions and client applications for point of services at branches.

Prior to ATH Network, Luis worked for Unisys as an Advisor Analyst for Retail and Government projects. Luis has considerable experience working for banks and financial institutions in Latin America and has a wide knowledge of the technology and solutions available for the financial sector in the Latin America region.

Luis has a Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering from National University of Colombia and a Master Degree in Tele-information from Distrital University Francisco Jose de Paula of Bogotá.


Rozano Planta
Director – Asia

Rozano Planta is a Channels & Technology Director for Asia at Accion International. He is responsible for driving and delivering consulting services for the region, helping build strong solutions that leverage innovative models, channels and technologies, driving learning exchange and thought leadership.

Rozano brings 18 years’ experience in mobile money, digital commerce, payment platforms, remittances, APIs and ICT technologies. He worked as Alternate Channel Head at Ooredoo Myanmar, implementing multiple ecosystems with banks, telcos, and MFIs for financial inclusion.

Previously, Rozano helped propel mobile money and drove digital financial services for the unbanked as Country Head at Axiata Group in Bangladesh where he also delivered advisory services and pioneered ubiquitous shared agent networks with bKash, DBBL, MyCash, MFIs, and banks.

Earlier, Rozano led the business development at G-Xchange, Globe Telecom and was responsible for mobile financial services including technologies assessment and money transfer services in the Philippines which received international awards for introduction of innovative services. He has initiated and successfully completed several projects for the Gates Foundation, World Bank, USAID, and UNDP leveraging digital financial services.

Rozano is a speaker in GSM Association, RBAP, IAMTM, and Lean Startup. He holds a B.A. degree from Ateneo de Manila University and mentors startup tech companies in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Bangladesh.


Kathleen Yaworsky
Specialist – Global

Kathleen Yaworsky is a Channels & Technology Specialist at Accion. She is responsible for research and analysis in support of C&T projects and focus areas. She provides additional due diligence and advisory services as well as business case development to support C&T’s team working with Financial Institution and Fintech clients globally.

Kathleen has over five years of experience designing, implementing and managing community-based development programs in Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America, on issues ranging from digital financial services, water and sanitation, to health and gender.

Prior to joining Accion, Kathleen consulted with MasterCard’s Government Services and Solutions team to design survey instruments and conduct market research evaluating merchant and consumer pain points resulting from the digitization of cash transfers through the Mexican government’s Oportunidades program. She also worked on strategy and operations for the MasterCard Center for Inclusive Growth.

Previously, Kathleen served as Acting Executive Director at Voss Foundation. Before joining Voss Foundation as Program Officer, she served for two years in Peace Corps Ukraine, focused on youth training and NGO capacity building. She speaks fluent French, Spanish, Ukrainian and some Russian.

Kathleen completed her M.A. in International Business and Development Economics at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. She received her B.A. in International Relations and Romance Languages from Bowdoin College.
